Shotokan Karate of America Memphis Shotokan Karate Dojo Memphis, Tennessee Home Memphis Dojo Contact Class Schedule Find a Dojo Instructors SKA Memphis Shotokan Karate Dojo 2009 Summer Special Training led by Bobby Bird (3rd from left in front row) Karate is a Japanese martial art, which first came from Okinawa to mainland Japan in 1916. Karate practice promotes mental and physical health, improves self-confidence, balance, focus, and strength. The Memphis Dojo is dedicated to teaching Karate in the traditional Japanese manner, following the teachings of Master Gichin Funakoshi and Tsutomu Ohshima, founder of SKA. Our dojo is an affiliate of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a national non-profit organization teaching traditional karate since 1955. Our purpose is to improve ourselves through our practice and to perpetuate our art. We welcome adult students of any age and children age 7 and up to come train with us. All instructors are black belts certified by SKA’s chief instructor, Tsutomu Ohshima. Come visit: Our practices are open to everyone. We encourage you to take part, and to come visit us at our dojo!
